The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection oversees the State Parks
system as will as recreation areas, State forests, and historical sites. Hiking,
swimming, camping, seashore adventures, and historical battlefields are found
throughout the State. There is plenty to do in the New Jersey State Parks and other
facilities. The State is divided into 6 regions.
Skylands - - A mountain area in the
Northwest part of the State.
Beautiful views and a challenge to
the hiker. Loaded with historical
sites, nature trails, and ample
camping facilities.
Gateway - - Located in the
Northeast corner of the State,
rolling hills and leisure hiking trails
are the focal point of this region. If
you enjoy nature walks this area
will be just for you
Delaware River - - Loaded with
historical sites (Washington
crossing the Delaware) and full of
natural beauty, this region is a focal
point in the New Jersey Park
System.
Shore - - From pine forests to
rolling sand dunes, this region is
close to the urban area of the State.
Activities include hiking, nature
walks, equestrian, and ocean shore
activities.
Greater Atlantic City - - The
largest State forest is located in the
urban region. Plenty of wildlife as
well as floral habitat.
Southern Shore - - The southern
most tip of New Jersey with
lighthouse, sandy beaches, and
pine forests. Camping, hiking, and
beach activities can be found in this
region
