THE PICNIC PLACEMAT
From grasslands to forests to the famous fish filled lakes, Minnesota has over 70 State
Parks and 58 State Forests covering over 4 million acres.  Activities range from nature
trails, camping, fishing, swimming, equestrian parks, winter sports, and beach
combing.  The Park System is divided into four regions, each one unique in its own
way.  From the pristine lakes along the Canadian border to the grasslands and
riverside parks in the Southwestern part of the State, you will find that perfect
vacation destination in one of Minnesota's State Parks.

Northeast - - Nestled along the
banks of Lake Superior and deep
into the northern forests, the
Northeast Region has a wide
variety of activities for any
outdoor enthusiast.  Fishing,
hiking, and plenty of camping
sites cam be found withing the
parks and forests.

Northwest - - The unique
ecosystem of lakes and bogs is
one of the highlights of this
region.  True to its 10,000 lakes
reputation there are numerous
State Parks on the shores of the
many lakes in the area.  Year
around recreational activities are
available in most State Parks.

Southern - - Grasslands, glacier
formed lakes, and rivers are the
focal point of this region.  Rich in
history of the settlers and the
Indian heritage, the Southern
area of the State Park system is a
perfect area for the history buff
or the one who enjoys leisure
nature walks to see the many
species of birds and the flora and
fauna native to the region.

Metropolitan - - You don't have
to travel far from the
metropolitan area to be in the
heart of a natural area preserved
for all to enjoy.  Hiking biking,
camping, nature trails and more
await those longing to get away
for the hustle and bustle of city
life.
