THE PICNIC PLACEMAT
Massachusetts has one of the most extensive Park Systems in the country.  Covering
approximately 450,00 acres, the system includes State Parks, forests, greenways,
historic sites, seashore, lakes, ponds, and reservoirs.  There are 29 State Parks in the
system, 15 of which are in the Western part of the State and 14 in the Eastern part of
the State.  Massachusetts has divided the State into four regional areas.  For more
information on specific area, click on the region listed below.
WESTERN - - Mountain climbing, winter
sport, camping, hiking  and fishing are the

significance, the Western Area will have
something for everyone

CENTRAL - - From historic mills to
tranquil lakes and protected rivers, the
Central Area is full of activities for a day
trip or a vacation.  History buffs will enjoy
