Directory of Iowa State Parks
List of  IOWA State Parks
THE PICNIC PLACEMAT
One of the most extensive Park Systems in the country, Iowa has 83 State Parks,
21 of which are managed by county or local agencies under lease from the State of
Iowa.   There are 62 campgrounds scattered throughout the State ranging from full
service hook-ups for Rv's to primitive camp sites for the tent camper seeking a
remote location in some secluded spot.

Recreational trails are a major feature of the Iowa Parks system.  Designed for
hikers, cross country skiers, snow mobiles, bikes, or casual strolls, there are  trails for
everyone.  Another special feature of the trail system is the nature trails and paved
bike paths in many of the State Parks.

Many parks are located along the banks of natural lakes or reservoirs built by the
Army Corps of Engineers.  24 parks contain artificial man made bodies of water.
Needles to say water activities such as swimming, boating, and fishing are an
important part of the Iowa Park System
