There are a total of 53 State Parks, recreation areas,  waysides, and historical sites on
the five major islands of Hawaii.  They are administrated by the Department of Land
and Natural Resources.  The Parks offer a wide range of features and activities.  From
fully developed facilities to wildland areas with limited facilities each park is unique.  
Hawaii's parks can be found along the coast with beautiful white sand beaches to the
secluded mountains with lush tropical forests.  Click on an island for more detailed

Kauai   
Most of the parks on Kauai are in remote area with limited services and facilities.  The
tropical beauty and hiking trails are well worth the effort required to get to these
parks.  Certain restrictions apply as to camping, fishing, hours,etc.

Oahu  
There are three State Parks on the island and several recreation areas, waysides, and
historical sites.  From fresh water inland lakes for fishing to coastal parks for surfing
and other beach activities,  there is a park that will satisfy your outdoor needs.  

Maui  
From remote State Parks (58 miles of slow driving) with beautiful scenery making the
long trek worthwhile, to forest reserves with extensive hiking trails, Maui State Parks
and recreation areas will be a visit long to be remembered.  Limited services at most
locations.

Molokai  
Blue waters and tropical forests make the one State Park in Molokai a special place to
visit.  Once known as the place where people with leprosy were sent.

Hawaii  
Two State Parks and several recreation areas can be found on Hawaii Island.  Some
area are very remote and it is recommended that you check out each location before
leaving for the day.  Areas range from beautiful beaches to remote mountain areas
